New Mani: Heavy Metal

Hello dear readers,

I have a new metal mani to show you this week. This is similar to a mani I did last October but I did the metallic design a little different this time around, more of a distressed look. Let’s get to the details.

First, I did a simple sponged gradient using regular polish and a makeup sponge. I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri colors, Show Steeler, Grease Lightening and Black to Black. I made sure to mask off my skin with liquid latex to reduce cleanup.

I let the polish dry for about 6 hrs before I topped with a coat of gel topcoat. Remember, if you are going to top the polish with gel you must wait for the lacquer to completely dry, otherwise you could experience peeling or denting.

For the metal design I used Akzentz Shine On no-wipe top coat as a base for the metallic gel polish. This super smooth, non-tacky surface is needed for the best metal look. I then used LVMAY silver gel paint to draw the scrolls and cured.

I removed the sticky layer with alcohol and then painted a thin coat of LQN silver metallic gel polish over the entire nail and let air dry until the polish settles into a smooth metal look and then cured in LED lamp for 60 seconds.

To create the distressed look, I used LVMAY black gel paint and a short, fine detail art brush to paint into all the recessed areas on the nail, leaving the raised scrolls silver. Once covered I then pressed lightly with my finger onto the nail to remove some of the black. I switched to a different finger for each press to avoid getting any black on top of the scrolls. Using your finger leaves cool lines from your fingerprint, if you don’t want to use your fingers, you could use a small brush or a tiny bit of sponge to kind of stipple the background. Once I had the look I wanted, I cured for 30 seconds in LED lamp.

To protect the design I topped with 2 coats of the Akzentz no-wipe topcoat and done!

I hope you have enjoyed this look…I plan on having a video up in another day or so.
